Abandon.- If you yourself are abandoned, a quarrel with a friend is imminent; if you desert someone it betokens the renewal of a friendship.
Abbey.- Present troubles will soon pass away.
Abdication.- To dream of the abdication of a sovereign foretells success for the schemes which you have in mind. Aboard.- If you dream that you are on board a ship you will gain profit from a hazardous enterprise.
Abroad.- To travel to a foreign country shows an advancement in business; if you dream that a friend or relative goes abroad there is an indication of a future estrangement.
Abyss.- If you are looking down an abyss, you are in some kind of danger but can avoid it if you act swiftly.
Falling down an abyss is an organic dream with no prophetic significance.
Accident.- To be involved in an accident on the road, or to see one, shows a need of great discretion in your affairs; you are trusting others too much.
To dream of an accident to a train is a warning that unless you place a greater confidence in yourself you will meet with failure in the enterprise which you contemplate. Have the courage of your convictions.
Actor.- If you are an actor or actress in real life and dream that you are successful on the stage, it is not a good sign; if you dream that you fail and are hissed off the stage, it presages great success in a future production. If you are not a professional but dream that you are acting, it shows that you lack sincerity and must cultivate a greater respect for the truth.
Adder.- To be bitten by one, lies and treachery coming from a false friends. To kill one, the end of an undesirable friendship. Aircraft.- To dream of any kind of flying machine signifies that your ambition and courage will lead you onwards to your goal.
If you dream of a flying accident, avoid taking business risks for the next few days.
Alligator.- Someone in your circle of acquaintances is a sly and treacherous enemy; you will recognize the person from the exaggerated friendship he displays in an attempt to win your favour and confidence.
Almonds.- If you dream of eating sweet almonds you will shortly go abroad.
To dream of eating bitter almonds foretells a journey with unhappy consequences.
Alms.- If you give them, you will become very prosperous within a year. If you receive them, your wealth will diminish but your happiness will increase.
Alphabet.- If you dream that you are reciting the alphabet, much worry and agitation is in store for you.
Altar.- To dream you are before an altar is an unhappy omen signifying losses and affliction. If you are decorating the altar, however, a happy love affair awaits you.
Anchor.- If you hope and have faith, you will be delivered from your present trouble. If the anchor is dragged, you will embark upon some rash business which will bring you shame.
Andiron.- A sign of great happiness and comfort in the home.
If misunderstandings exist at present it lies in your own power to banish them.
Angels.- A particularly fortunate omen for those in love, showing that each is implicitly faithful and that a happy marriage will result. For those who are afflicted it is a sign of comfort and foretells coming joy and consolation.
Anger.- When the dreamer is angry with a friend, the latter may be regarded as being especially faithful. If the dreamer is the object of another’s anger, he may rest assured that he is greatly loved.
Angling.- If you are successful and catch many fish, you have ambitions which will soon be realized. No catch at all indicates loss or failure.
Animals.- Domestic animals signify happiness; wild animals especially the great cats- treachery and cruelty on the part of enemies. (See also special animals under individual names, as Lion, Tiger.)
Ants.- If they are seen hard at work upon the ant-hill, it is suspicious for all those engaged in industry, foretelling increased prosperity and expansion of business. Lovers may expect a happy wedded life following this dream. If the ants are flying, the dreamer will journey to a foreign land or pay a visit to a large town.
When you stamp on or in some manner destroy the ant-hill it is an ill omen, indicating that your carefully laid plans will result in utter failure and destruction. Anvil.- To see one, or to hear the ring as a hammer strikes it, foretells great success of the project in hand.
Ape.- I ll fortune as a result of malicious slanders.
Arm.- If the arm is strong and healthy, you will have success in an unexpected quarter; if it is weak or diseased, you will suffer a great disappointment.
Arrow.- If it is fired towards you and wounds you, it foretells a betrayal of your confidence. If the dreamer is shooting arrows, he will be. Led into slanderous utterances in the near future.
Ashes.- Unlucky omens denoting coming misfortunes, the chief of which will be money losses.
Ass.- You will overcome your present affliction if you have the patience to wait a little longer. Slowly but surely happiness is approaching.
Assassin.- Within a few days the dreamer will meet one who will help him greatly, especially in financial matters.
Atlas.- If you seize your opportunity, your wish to travel in foreign lands will soon be fulfilled.
Atmosphere.- If it is clear and pure, or tinged with light blue, you are in the happy possession of a good conscience, and your actions will make you universally loved and respected. If you are faced with any problem, the solution is very near at hand; pending lawsuits will result in your favour. Dark or cloudy atmosphere indicates trouble and affliction; quarrels with old friends, misunderstandings, business worries and unsuccessful enterprises.
Attic.- To dream one is in the attic of a house presages the renewal of an old and dear friendship.
Auction Sale.- To the dreamer, this is a subconscious warning that he is living in an extravagant manner. Unless economy is practiced great loss or even ruin may result.
Axe.- To wield an axe in a dream tells of great strength of character, which will bring success and much reward.
Baby.- A happy omen for a woman, denoting great joy and a true lover. If a man dreams he is nursing a baby, it is a sign of a disappointment in a love affair. Bachelor.- When a married man dreams he is a bachelor he must take care lest he becomes unfaithful to his wife. To talk to a bachelor in a dream signifies the forthcoming wedding of the dreamer. Bag.- If one is carrying a full bag, an unimportant loss is to be expected shortly. An empty bag denotes a trifling present from an acquaintance. Bagpipes.- A dream of ill omen, either to hear them played by another or to play the oneself. It signifies mental conflict, which will result in quarrelling and the breaking of friendship. Balcony.- To be watching others from a balcony foretells unexpected success. If the balcony gives way, a quarrel with a lover. Ball.- If you, yourself, are playing with the ball you may expect some exceptionally good news. If you watch others playing but take no part, you will soon become jealous of a friend. Banquet.- For both man and woman this is a sign of good times ahead, with much wealth and happiness. (See also Dining.) Bat.- If it is flying at night, some unknown enemy may do you harm. If you dream that you see the bat by day, you will escape a danger which is threatening. Bath.- To dream that you are in your bath and that the water is warm, you will fail through your own laziness in task you have undertaken. If the water is cold, success and prosperity will ensue for all those engaged in trading. Bathing.- If you dream that the water in which you bathe is clear, you may expect your business to improve and your love affair to end happily. When the water is muddy, however, you will have an unexpected misfortune and be crossed in your affections. Battle.- Violent battles with much bloodshed, causing terror to the dreamer, are organic dreams and have no significance. To dream that one is engaged in or watching a battle, without excessive terror, indicates success in spite of opposition. Beans.- An unfortunate omen indicating serious losses and perhaps sickness, if one dreams of eating them. To see them growing foretells a lover’s quarrel. Bear.- If you are running from the bear, your present happiness is shortly to be marred by a rich, unscrupulous enemy. If you slay the bear, you will prevail against your enemy.
Beard.- If you see a bearded man, you will soon receive some good advice from a friend. For a man to dream that he has a beard denotes that he is engaged on a foolish and fruitless enterprise. If a woman dreams that she has grown a beard, she will be delivered from the attentions of an unwelcome lover. Bee.- To dream of a bee or bees is exceedingly fortunate; it foretells great domestic happiness, improvement in industry, and faithfulness of friends. Beggar.- If, in your dream, you refuse to give the beggar money when he asks for it, you may expect a loss. If you give alms, prosperity is in store for you.
Bells.- Tolling bells denote bad news concerning a friend or distant relation. To see a bell which is silent signifies a sudden quarrel, especially for married persons.
Bier.- To see one in a dream is a good omen, foretelling a happy marriage for a member of the family.
Birds.- To a wealthy person, birds on the wing is an unfavorable sign; it foretells loss of money. To one in humble circumstances, it predicts an upward trend of affairs, bringing happiness and success. Blankets.- If you dream that you are buying blankets in summer, a slight illness caused through your own neglect is imminent If you are buying them in winter, it is a good omen, predicting ease and comfort.
Blind Man.- To dream of leading a blind man signifies that someone whom you trust is, in reality, betraying you. If you dream that you yourself are blind it indicates that you will make a bad choice in selecting a lover.
Blood.- If in great quantity and causing the dreamer to be terrified, blood has no significance, for it is an organic dream. Otherwise, blood symbolize gold, an increase in material wealth.
Blows.- If the dreamer is giving the blows, he must shortly expect failure in a lawsuit. To receive blows denotes victory in the courts.
Boat.- If you are in a boat on calm water, you may soon expect a change of residence and occupation. If the water is rough and stormy, be prepared for a great disappointment.
Book.- A good sign, especially if you dream of reading one.
You will probably journey to another part of the country and there make a discovery of great value.
Bottle.- A letter containing surprising news is on its way, if you dream of an empty bottle. A full bottle denotes the indisposition of a friend.
Box.- To dream of opening a box means that a secret of the dreamer has been discovered. Closing a box predicts trouble in money matters.
Bread.- If you are eating it, you may expect to enjoy very good health. If you are baking it, it is generally a bad sign, signifying sorrow at home and quarrels between man and wife.
Bridge.- To dream of crossing a bridge indicates that you have been worrying unduly over a matter which is not serious. If the bridge should collapse, you must exercise special care in your financial affairs.
Broom.- To sweep with a broom denotes a change of occupation.
A broom lying on the ground signifies desertion by an old friend.
Bull.- If the bull is charging you, enemies are slandering you.
If the animal is eating peacefully in a field, great prosperity in store for the dreamer.
Burglar.- To dream of a burglar in one’s own house is a sign of a lucky speculation.
If you dream that you are a burglar and are arrested, you will defeat an enemy who has been troubling you.
Burial.- A contrary dream, telling of good news from a relative which will affect yourself. To lovers it means a speedy marriage.
Burns.- If the dreamer is burnt, he may shortly expect a present of money. When someone else in the dream is burnt, the dreamer will find a new and faithful friend.
Butter.- To eat or to see it indicates a festive celebration, an invitation for which will reach you within a day or two.
Butterfly.- Not a favorable dream; it signifies that you are right in doubting the faithfulness of your lover.
Buying.- This is another instance of the subconscious manifesting itself in a contrary manner. Generally, it is an indication of a financial loss.
Cabbage.- If you are cutting a cabbage, an intimate friend is jealous of you. Eating cabbage, good health and long life.
Cabin.- If you dream that you are alone in a ship’s cabin it foretells domestic troubles and unhappiness. Another person with you in the cabin, however, is a good sign; it denotes advancement aided by one in a good position.
Cage.- If a woman dreams of a cage full of birds, she will shortly have an offer of marriage. If the cage is empty, an elopement owing to family opposition is indicated. For a man, the omen foretells an early marriage.
Camel.- A short journey in connexion with a legacy, If there is only one camel. Several camels mean a large sum of money by inheritance.
Candle.- If it is burning, you will shortly receive a letter bearing good news. Unlighted candles, or snuffing candles, denote a great disappointment and frustrated ambitions.
Canoe.- to be alone in a canoe shows that you will struggle for independence and will meet with much opposition. If someone is helping you to paddle, the contrary is indicated; you are too dependent on another and should learn to fight your own battles.
Caravan.- A journey abroad, probably for business purposes, will greatly increase your prosperity but will be somewhat detrimental to your health.
Cards.- If you are playing and you win, expect a speedy marriage; if you lose, you will shortly be engaged upon a dangerous undertaking. If you are a spectator only, anticipate an attempt to defraud you in some business transaction.
Carrot.- This is an unfavourable omen. It presages a great deal of work with little or no reward.
Castle.- To dream that you live in one foretells that you will shortly be burdened with some great responsibility which will cause worry for a time. To view a castle from a distance is favourable, indicating an improvement in fortune and an appointment to some public office.
Cat.- If you see one walking alone –a journey; a mewing cat lies will be told about you; a cat which scratches itself—you will be deceived; a purring cat—you will be guilty of hypocrisy.
In dreams, the colour of a cat has no significance.
Cave.- If you are hiding in a cave, someone is spreading a scandal about you, which may cause much harm unless you are quick to repudiate it. To see wild animals coming out of a cave indicates the discovery of a secret which will cause misgivings.
Cemetery.- Good news; the restoration to health of a sick friend or relation.
Chapel.- This is a bad sign; a troubled conscience will bring discredit on you, unless you adopt a course of action different from the one which you are now pursuing.
Cheating.- A dream of contraries. If you are cheating someone else, be on your guard against fraud and deception. If you, yourself, are being cheated, you are contemplating a doubtful deal and would be well advised not to go on with it.
Chess.- To dream of playing chess indicates quarrels with friends and the making of several new enemies.
Children.- A happy dream indicating great joy and prosperity.
For a woman, it indicates that she has, or will have, a good husband; for a man, complete domestic concord awaits him.
Church.- If the doors are open the omen is good, signifying a rise in position or expansion in business. Closed doors of a church are not lucky—the dreamer may soon expect a bitter disappointment, perhaps a monetary loss.
Cinders.- If the cinders are cold, you will love someone who has no feelings towards you. If they glow, you are loved by a person whom you have not met.
Clock.- To see its face indicates business worries. If heard striking, you will be faced with some minor household problems. Clothes.- To dream you are well dressed indicates a loss of money, probably through thieves. If you are in rags it is a token of the success of a favoured project. Black clothes denote coming joy; white clothes, much sorrow.
To dream that one is naked has no prophetic significance.
This dream, which occurs at some time or other to most people, probably has its origin somewhere in the depths of our subconscious mind, reminding us of the time when earliest man quite unclothed; for a period in our dream we imagine that we are once more in this primitive condition.
Clouds.- These, if they are dark and threatening,are a symbol of some trouble near at hand. Light and billowy clouds indicate the return of someone who has long been absent.
Colours.- It is a good sign to dream of bright or light colours (except white) which are beautiful and [leasing to the eye. It reveals that the subconscious mind is in a happy and harmonious condition; and thus presages joy, freedom, and, perhaps, prosperity. Dark or ugly colours (except black) are unfortunate omens; they denote depression, general unhappiness and failure.
In divination by dreams, certain colours have special meanings, they are as follows:-
Black.- Great joy, probably in connexion with someone very dear to you.
Blue.- Light.- Purity and great sincerity bringing happiness.
Green, Dark.- from some source there is evil threatening.
Green, Light.- Calm thoughts and repose, which will cause great contentment.
Purple, Dark.- A mental storm is brewing which may result in sorrow.
Purple, Light.- Inspiration and wisdom.
Red.- Excessive passion causing misery.
White.- Deep sorrow and worry.
Yellow.- Success in love affairs.
Dagger.- Pointed towards you, it signifies strife and enmity arising from one who is yet unknown to you. If you, yourself, hold the dagger, your cherished wish will not be fulfilled.
Dancing.- If you dream that you are dancing, you will receive an unexpected present from a stranger. To watch others dancing denotes jealousy in love; to dance without a partner foretells a single life.
Darkness.- A dream of walking in darkness is a subconscious manifestation of an uneasy mind; if you have wronged anyone you should endeavour to put matters right, otherwise you will find much unhappiness. If you dream that you walk from darkness to light, you will make an important and profitable discovery.
Death.- An exceptionally happy omen denoting a long and comfortable life. To sick person, it means a speedy recovery to health. Accompanied by great fear, it is an organic dream and has no meaning.
Deer.- If they run from you as you approach, you will deeply offend your friends by some action. When the deer come towards you, reconciliation with a former lover.
Desert.- To dream of travelling across a hot, dry desert signifies a short journey to a city on a matter of business. If a storm occurs in the dream, the business will have an unsatisfactory conclusion.
Devil.- An unlucky dream foretelling approaching danger and temptation.
Diamond.- If you dream that you find it, a loss of money is to be expected. If you are cutting it, you will prevail over a relentless enemy.
Dice.- Playing at dice indicates business troubles, possibly linked with much adverse speculation.
Digging.- To dig for gold or other treasure in a dream is unlucky and foretells domestic strife or lovers’ quarrels. To be digging on cultivated land is as a symbol of prosperity signify increased wealth through labour.
Dining.- An unfortunate dream for married people; quarrels are indicated. For a bachelor or spinster it foretells an unhappy marriage and, perhaps, divorce.
Dirt.- To dream that your body or your clothes are dirty denotes coming illness or great worries.
Diving.- If the dreamer is diving into water it is a good omen, signifying a lucky speculation or investment which will bring much wealth. To watch others dive, you will see your friends succeed where you have failed.
Doctor.- The meaning of this dream is a contrary one, indicating that you will enjoy good health and that your ills will be minor ones.
Dog.- To dream of your own dog is lucky; it denotes the fidelity of friends. Strange dogs symbolize enemies who are waiting to ruin you. Mad dogs which attack and bite the dreamer are good omen foretelling the coming of influential and kindly strangers. If you dream that a dog speaks to you, you will learn something from a friend which will be of great benefit to you.
Doll.- Much pleasure and festivity will occur within a few days of the dream, probably at the house of a stranger.
Dove.- A dove in a dream is an omen of peace and prosperity, unless you see it fall to the ground, when it foretells the death of a distant relative.
Dragon.- An indication of a change of residence; if you are in the town you will move to the country, or if you are in the country you will live in a town house.
Dream.- To realize that you are dreaming when you are asleep deprives your dream of all signification, for, in such a case, your conscious mind is in an active state and the subconscious cannot manifest itself in a clear manner.
Drinking.- If in your dream, you drink wine, beer or spirits, you will have a business loss but make a new friends. To drink water is an indication of a disappointment for one who is closely associated with you. If you dream that you are drunk you will soon meet with outstanding success.
Drowning.- A dream of good omen if you, yourself, are drowning. It indicates that someone will render you a valuable service through which you will gain money. To watch others drowning signifies misfortune; if you rescue them, you will be lucky in love.
Eagle.- If the bird flies high, your ambitions will be realized. If the eagle is nesting or comes down to earth, you will meet with disappointment both in business and love.
Earthquake.- To the married this means discord between man and wife; to the lover it is an indication that he has a favoured rival; to business men it is a warning to proceed with caution.
Eating.- An unhappy dream foretelling strife between friends or lovers.
Eclipse.- To see an eclipse of the sun or moon betokens trouble for a near relation, caused by the dreamer’s foolish actions.
Eggs.- Provided they are unbroken, success in business undertakings; if broken, misfortune and quarrels.
Electricity.- A lucky dream foretelling good news from abroad.
Elephant.- A dream denoting prosperity and the making of many new and influential friends.
Entertainment.- If you dream that you are attending any form of entertainment.- it is a bad sign indicating a broken engagement or the loss of a contract.
Execution.- To be at your own execution presages good; you will achieve success which will make you famous. To watch another being executed indicates that you will help someone with a gift of money or food.
Exile.- If you dream that you are banished it signifies that you are discounted with your present state of affairs and that you will therefore travel. If your friends are banished, it presages domestic quarrels.
Eyes.- If, in a dream, an eye appears to be sore or infected, it betokens the illness of a close friend. To lose one’s eyesight means to lose one’s friends.
Face.- To see your face in a mirror while dreaming indicates the discovery of a treasured secret; if your face appears pale and drawn, you will suffer by the discovery; if it is swollen and red, you will benefit.
Fairy.- Good news from an unexpected quarter. To lovers, the dream foretells a long and romantic life.
Falling.- A dream which, is organic and has no prophetic significance.
Famine.- This signifies great personal comfort and a change for the better in living conditions.
Farm.- To dream that you are on a farm denotes that you will have great success in your business, especially if it involves much mental work. To the lover, the dream is exceptionally lucky, foretelling an early marriage to a good tempered and devoted partner.
Father.- If you dream of your father it is a sign that he bears the greatest affection for you. If your father is dead, it is a warning of affliction.
Fighting.- If you dream that you fight and lose, you may rest assured that all your troubles will soon be dispersed. In a dream it is unlucky to fight and win, for it shows you have malicious enemies who will succeed in harming you.
Finger.- To cut your finger in a dream means that your recent actions have damaged your character. To see someone else cut a finger, a slander has been spread concerning yourself.
Finger-nails.- To dream that your nails are unusually long denotes business achievements and success in love. If they are exceptionally short or cut right off, it signifies disgrace, estrangement from friends and losses in business.
Fire.- An organic dream, caused by physical disorders. No prophetic significance.
Fish.- To see a single fish is a lucky dream; it denotes increased prosperity, a devoted spouse and a brilliant child. If several fish are seen swimming, many friends are working to help you.
Flowers.- To dream of gathering flowers indicates a delightful surprise. White flowers, generally, are unlucky, for they presage disappointments, especially in love affairs. Red flowers, generally, are happy omens, foretelling lasting friendships and joyful union. In dreams, certain flowers have special significations; they are as follows:-
Anemone.- Your love is untrue, seek another.
Arum lily.- Unhappy marriage.
Bluebell.- You will have a nagging spouse.
Buttercup.-Your business will increase.
Carnation.- A passionate love affair.
Clover.- Someone who is very poor seeks your hand.
Crocus.- Do not trust the dark man who has attracted you.
Rose.- A wedding, perhaps your own, within a year.
Forest.- To be lost in one is lucky; it foretells success and prosperity. If you view one from a distance, you will lose some property. If you view one from a distance, you will lose some property.
Fruits.- Most fruits in dreams symbolize prosperity and abundance. Certain fruits also have particular meanings;
Funeral.- This has a contrary meaning and denotes the marriage of the dreamer, a relation, or an intimate friend.
Gallows.- A contrary dream denoting success and many new acquaintances.
Games.- To play them foretells good news; to watch them signifies jealousy, on your part, of a friend.
Garden.- A happy dream meaning marriage with a very beautiful woman or a handsome man.
Ghost.- If of a terrifying and horrible character, this is an organic dream and of on significance. To dream of talking calmly to a ghost denotes consolation in your troubles.
Giant.- It is a lucky omen to dream of a giant. Commercial prosperity is foretold.
Gipsy.- An omen of domestic happiness, especially if the gipsy is hostile to you. To dream that you are a gipsy mean that you will never settle down, but will yield to your subconscious urge to travel and seek your fortune in far-off lands.
Glass.- If the pane of glass is clear, your future will be bright and successful; if it is dark or misty, you may expect some worries in connexion with your private affairs.
Gloves.- To dream of losing them foretells a business lose; to find a pair, a parting from a friend,; to wear them, a forthcoming wedding which you will attend.
Goose.- Your expectations will end in disappointment. If you kill the goose, you will achieve startling success.
Grain.- A happy dream if you see an abundance of it; respect and much honour will be yours and your household will be full of joy and prosperity.
Grass.- You will not prosper in the country; the city is best for your success.
Grave.- A contrary dream denoting health for the sick, riches for the poor, and lovers for the loverless.
Gun.- To hear the report but not to see the gun means the death of a distant relative. To fire a gun signifies hurt from an enemy. If you see the gun fired by someone else, you will quarrel with a dearly-loved friend. Hail.- This is a bad dream, denoting disappointed hopes and blighted prospects.
Hair.- If a man dreams that he has long hair, it is a sign that he is weak and wavering. If a woman dreams that she has no hair, she will offend others by her domineering ways. To dream that one’s hair is dyed an unusual colour is an omen of worry and affliction.
Hand.- A right hand refers to brothers or sister; a left hand represent children. To dream that a hand is dirty denotes ill luck for those whom it represents; to injure either hand denote s injury to those whom it symbolizes. If the hands appear to be tied, it foretells the removal of some impediment to success.
Hanging.- If you dream that you are being hamged it is a good omen; a successful career awaits you. To see another being hanged means that a friend or relation will become honoured and famous.
Harvest.- A sign of prosperity for those engaged in business. It also foretells domestic concord and is one of the most favourable of dreams.
Hat.- To wear a new one foreshadows a disappointment; to lose one denotes a present; to find one signifies a trifling loss of money.
Head.- An accident to the head is a forewarning of misfortune for the dreamer. Unseen enemies encompass him.
Hearse.- This is a contrary dream; it denotes a marriage or a similar joyful celebration.
Heaven.-A great change in your life, which will bring you much happiness.
Hell.- This dream arises from mental strife and usually foretells a change for the better, an improvement in business.
Hen.- A cackling hen is a sign of future joy, but a silent one spells sorrow. To pluck a hen, financial gain; to see one with its chicks, loss and damage.
Herb.- This is one of the many dreams that indicate prosperity.
Hills.- In the distance, they are lucky and denote the realization of ambitions; to climb them, future worries; to run down them, bitter disappointment.
Horse.- To ride a horse is a good dream foretelling the making of money and true friends; to fall off one denotes a hasty marriage; to beat one means that your aims will be thwarted. To see a number of horses signifies independence and happiness.
Horseshoe.- An omen of ill luck, telling of gambling losses and unrequited love.
Hospital.- A contrary dream denoting good health and freedom from worry.
Hounds.- To dream of following them is lucky; you will reap success. If you are pursued by hounds, your marriage will be an unhappy one.
House.- A new or strange house denotes domestic comfort and a contented wife. To see a house fall foretells family quarrels and estrangements.
